The fact that broad statements about cultural tendencies are generalizations does not negate their value as accurate descriptions. For example, within the American sub-type of Judeo-Christian cultures, there is an expectation of certain common assumptions. For example, the default position of trust between members until proven otherwise is illustrated by our belief in "innocent until proven guilty." Other cultures do not contain such a presumption. In more tribal cultures, guilt or innocence is irrelevant in the legal sense; the relative power of the individual within his tribe and the relative position of the tribe within the society is much more important in determining punishments than mere guilt or innocence.
